Week 6 (O crap time has gone way too fast..)

First off, i hope you enjoyed last weeks showings. You have proven yourself all hardcore for enduring Perfect Blue. So go you!

Also, i think the quiz went down quite well so well done team Goat for bagging yourself a box of chocolates for your efforts. Due to it’s success you can expect another quiz in the future but we would like your opinions on if you felt it too hard or too easy so that we can ensure your all happy. Any other ideas for games/quizs we can play in Anime Soc to complement shorter films are welcome.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya has been selected as this terms ongoing series so….. your all DOOOOOOMED. On to this weeks showings

Monday 5-7pm T008

Thursday 5-7pm T008

That is it for this week.

Bennett Week

Kombanwa

Firstly thank you for all those who went to Fuyu and made the day a great deal of fun. We should also thank Mr Saki-San for the comfort he provided to us on what was a cold Saturday.

A reminder also that next week we will be showing our chosen on-going series and episodes 1+2 of each anime series. The selection is still up for debate so do please continue to provide us feedback on what series and anime you would like to watch.

This week is Bennett’s week. Or Chris if you find that easier to remember.

Monday - T008 5-7pm

Excel Saga: Off-your tits crazy series that parodies just about everything in Japan and Anime.

Read or Die TV: Very cool series, well animated and follows the adventures of 3 paper “masters”.

Trigun: One of my favourite series about a wandering gun-slinger.

Mahoromatic: The story of one boy and his robotic maid. <—- See how i snuck maides in there Kay ^_____^

*These won’t all be episode 1- so beware :D*

Thursday T008 5-7pm

Perfect Blue: Satoshi Kun’s psychological mind thriller. Centers around the live of a young and vibrant J-pop star as she attempts to make a name for herself as a actor. But not everyone is happy with her decision…

Thats it for now.

Message from Jordan - Events Secretary for Anime & Manga society

Hallo folks!

I bring news for those who couldn’t make it to last nights session (and for those who did but have forgotten or weren’t listening)!

Bowling trip - 24th April

Once again on a tuesday night because it’s student night and cheap, which is something I’m sure we can all agree is good. We’ll be meeting around 7pm in town, hopefully with our wonderous El Presidente to lead the way to victory! Er… The bowling alley. More details about where when El Presidente confirms this to be correct.
Possibly followed by a trip to the pub.

Cosplay Picnic (and pub crawl) - 20th May

Pretty much as is described. A good way to wind down after exams - by getting beaten up by a bunch of chavs for wandering around Derby in stupid outfits. Alternatively - having a laugh whilst getting rather drunk.

Theme is yet to be decided, so far had the rather lollerful suggestion of schoolgirls and samurai, other suggestions wanted, watch this space for the final decision (because really, we don’t want to have to see Depresion in a short skirt). (Sorry Tim, I love you really…)

Suggestions for childrens games also wanted Smile

Charity Marathon! - 2nd & 3rd June
The date isn’t set in stone, yet, so if anyone has any major gripes then let me know, although it seemed like the best choice suggested so far.

We want a majority vote about what series we should watch, the choices are Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed and Full Metal Panic. So far FMP is winning by a singular vote, so please please please inform me what it is you would like to watch.

The arguments for Gundam Wing and FMP were pretty much the same - giant robots and big breasted women. The argument for Gundam Seed was pretty boys and giant robots.

Hopefully will have more info on exactly how this is going to work in the next week or so Very Happy

London Expo - 26th May
Tickets for the 15 people who put their names down are all ordered and on the way Very Happy

As for getting to London we have 3 choices and I’d like to know from everyone what they’d prefer (we’re going by majority vote, but if you’d like to arrange your own transport, that’s okay too - just let us know so we don’t order you a ticket)

All prices are estimates for the moment, but it shouldn’t vary by more than a couple of quid.

Choice 1 - Coach
It takes its sweet ass time, and we’d have to be up early (what is this 7am of which you speak?!) but it’s cheap. Looking at around £16 per person.

Choice 2 - Cheapish Trains
Fast, but not necesseraly the best choice of times, wouldn’t get down to London till after 12, which means some of the good gets would be gone, and means our early entry tickets would be wasted D: Looking at around £24 per person.

Choice 3 - Better timed trains
Also fast, and get into London at a decent time, but the most expensive of the options. Could vary greatly due to tickets being bought up quickly. Looking at around £35 per person.

I need to know peoples preferences ASAP! I know who the 15 of you are, and I will attempt to find you all to ask you, of course if you come to me it makes it 10 times easier, I’m only one person damnit

Righteo, I’ve rambled on long enough, and I think that’s everything important. I’m always about if anyone needs anything as usual.

We Return for the summer

Sorry for the lateness of this entry. our sessions start again today same time/same place, with more details to be revealed about the London Expo trip and information on socials too!

We have also locked the playlist, so no one can changed what they have voted in. hope to see you there today. if you are unable to attend today, details about the London Expo/Socials will be posted on here for your reference.

Japanarama

For those who have freeview/digital TV be sure to check out the new series of Japanarama. Essentially it looks at japanese culture, presented by Jonathan Ross. it’s starts @ 11pm every monday on BBC3 beginning tonight :D

~* LONDON EXPO *~

We are holding our second trip to the London Expo this year. For those of you who don’t know, the London Expo is a 2 day event where the communities of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Gaming and Anime come together in one hall, filled with events, stalls selling a large range, singings from famous VA’s (voice actors) and actors from sci-fi fantasy series. The Expo Runs on the 26th and 27th of MAY.
However at the moment we have yet to finalise details on prices. this hopefully will be done in the next week or so and details will be sent via here and e-mail from Kay Halfpenny. The price should be around the £10 mark (for one day of the Expo only. Hotel arrangements are not covered by the Students Union, so you will have to sort that out yourself) though it could increase due to changes in Train fares.

You can check out the London Expo website here: http://www.londonexpo.com/ (copy and paste link to the address bar - i have no html skillz)
(the Japan Expo is out of the Student Union’s year plan so we can’t organise a trip with them - which sucks i know)

Details on Price WILL be sent asap when they are confirmed.
