Students’ Union Committees
Union Council Committees are there to decide how the Union should be run. All of the input received, and ultimately decisions made, by committees will have a direct input on how the Students’ Union is run. If you want ensure that you are listened too and that your voice is heard then joining a committee will give you the platform to do this without having to worry about a specific remit, like that of Union Officers.
Below are the current Students’ Union Committees and a brief description of what they discuss:
Communications Association Committee
The function of the Communications Association Committee is to oversee the development and progression of Communication within the Union. The Committee will also ensure that the needs of student media, publications and web site are met. 3 representatives of the Communications to ensure these meetings happen.

Ethics and Environment Committee
This committee sits to ensure that the Students’ Union is acting responsibly from an ethical and environmental point of view. Any concerns regarding the way the Union is run in terms of the Environment should be raised and discussed at this committee.

Entertainments Advisory Committee
This Committee exists to ensure that students have input into the Entertainments programme offered by the Union. 2 members of this Committee sit on Council and it is the responsibility of the VP Communications to ensure this committee meets.

Buxton Site Committee
The Committee is responsible for representing students who study at the Buxton campus, and gives input into what the Union offers there. The Site Representative from Buxton sits on Council and it is the VP Buxton’s responsibility to ensure this Committee meets.

Buxton Student Activities Committee
To meet at least once a month to take student activities forward within the University of Derby students ’ Union and represent its membership based at Buxton.

Women’s Committee
The Women’s Officer, 5 Non-Portfolio Officers (all must be women) and any Female Executive member sits on the Women’s Committee. The purpose of the Committee is to take the Women’s Campaign forward within the University of Derby Students’ Union. It is the VP Education & Welfare responsibility to ensure this Committee meets.

Societies Association Committee
This Committee is co-ordinated by the VP Students Activities and exists to make decisions on issues such as grant allocations and societies related campaigns. 2 members of this Committee sit on Council.

Sports Association Committee
This Committee is also co-ordinated by the VP Student Activities and exists to make decisions on issues such as grant allocations, sports tour and sports related campaigns. 2 members of this Committee sit on Council.

RAG Committee
The RAG Officer, 5 Non-Portfolio Officers sits on the RAG Committee. The purpose of this committee is to take RAG forward within the University of Derby Students’ Union. It is the VP Student Activities responsibility to ensure this Committee meets.
