The debates we have at the Education Zone will turn into policy which in turn will set the direction of the Students’ Union for the next three years. And when we are not debating education policy we will be scrutinising the universities current procedures. The zone will be empowered, mandated and resourced to run their own campaigns on issues they decide. As a University of Derby student, this Zone is your chance to hold your VP Education & Welfare to account, and your opportunity to really make a difference to your own educational experience.

At the Welfare and Student Rights Zone we will discuss issues that directly impact on your welfare and your rights as well as some of the wider issues.
We will debate relevant policy before submitting it to the Students' Union's Executive Committee, ensuring that our Students' Union has a stance on some of the biggest contemporary issues. We will ensure that every member of our Students' Union is treated fairly and that they have access to the basic rights available to everyone. Subjects such as students rights at work, housing and sexual health, all come under the remit of this Zone, and as you can see these are issues that make a real difference to the lives of individuals, and issues the zone will have the resources to campaign on. There are also the broader, international issues regarding fascism and the war in the Middle East. You might feel this is an issue that you don't fully understand and we will be hearing from expert guest speakers to make sure our decisions are fair, balanced and informed.
This Zone will also be responsible for holding our Elected Officers to account; most importantly we will be responsible for making sure the whole Students' Union is keeping to its mission of extending and defending the rights of its members.
