RAG is an initialism of ‘Raise and Give’, which is something your Students’ Union does annually in order to raise money to give to a nominated charity. RAG involves a variety of charity events held throughout the year.

We also host RAGE Week (Raise and Give Extreme), this is a whole week in our calendar dedicated to charity fundraising.

In the past we have raised thousands of pounds every year for different charities such as the DAB, Winston’s Wish and the Bobby Moore fund. The majority of this money has been raised by our student societies, sports teams and some of our passionate volunteers. In the 2009/10 academic year RAG and RAGE changed, we now focus on one charity each year and a large majority of the funds are raised by the BHed students as part of their course. These students choose the charity, and we facilitate the students in co-ordinating events.

Since this change we have seen a massive increase in the variety of charity events and the amount raised. In the first year we raised over £5000 for our nominated charity Barnardo’s! Despite these students running most of RAG and RAGE events, we still had our dedicated sports teams, societies and volunteers raising money throughout the year for RAG.
