The Athletic Union and the University is committed to providing new and existing coaches with support and development opportunities in coaching and officiating. Through university links with national governing bodies, schools and colleges and the county sports partnership we can offer students and staff the opportunity to gain qualifications and experience in coaching.

Coaching and Refereeing Courses

Most courses are not held directly at the University this year however we will be working with Coaching Derbyshire to provide students with access to NGB coaching courses. Please access the links below to search for courses in the sports you are interested in. If you want to register for any courses please ensure you register on the coaching database link first

Rugby Ready Course
Date 13th February 2-4pm
Price £18 pp
Location Kedleston Road Campus, S110 & 3G Pitch (all weather facility – no metal studs)

Rugby Level 1 Course
Date 24th February 7pm-9.30pm (classroom based only)

Notes: Please bring suitable clothing for both outdoor and indoor practises. All those who want to register on the level 1 course must have completed the rugby ready by the time the Level 1 course starts.

Hockey Coaching Courses

VRQ Level 1 Assistant Coach Award Dates
Venue: Shobnall Leisure Complex, Derbyshire
Dates: 27th March, 3rd, 17th April 2011

VRQ Level 2 Coach Award Dates
Venue: Manor Sports Complex, Nottinghamshire
Dates: 4th, 5th, 18th, 19th June 2011

To complete this qualification you will require a current First Aid certificate and current Sports Coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop certificates (both must be dated within 3 years on date of full certification of the award).
Fast Track Level Two Any coach who was accredited as a Level One Coach prior to 1st April 2005 can submit an application to complete the Level Two Coach Award via the Fast Track route. Candidates who have completed a Level One Course since that date, who have received an outstanding report from their Assessor and who meet all the required criteria and skills sets, can submit an application to be considered for Fast Track by the Regional Coaching Group. Each application will be considered on an individual basis and be signed off by their Regional Coaching Group.
Candidates will need to have attended a current Foundation Skills Workshop, have attended a Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop and have a First Aid Qualification. The candidate may be required to complete approximately three hours of homework prior to attending a 6-hour theory/portfolio building module.

The cost to Fast Track is £300, which includes the portfolio, resources, attendance at Fast Track day (theory modules & portfolio building) and two assessments (one with adults and one with children, both of which must be completed within 2 years of attendance of the Fast Track training).
