The University of Derby Students' Union and what it means to you

"to defend and extend the rights of our students by proactively creating and maximising opportunities."

In short, our responsibility is to make life better for those students studying at the University of Derby and Buxton College.

Always remember that the Students' Union is not part of the University; it is this independence that is key to our role. We are both student led and student focused and, as such, we are passionate about ensuring that your time at university is as awesome as possible. The University of Derby Students' Union exists to represent students' voices within the University and also the wider community – both locally and, via NUS, nationally.

The organisation is led each year by a group of students who are voted in by their peers enrolled at the University of Derby. This team is supported by a team of full-time employed staff and also a team of over 30 Part-Time Officers (elected volunteers). In order to stay student-led we also host five 'zones' where any student can give their input and opinions which will be considered by the elected officers when leading the organisation.

Every student enrolled at the University of Derby is automatically a member of the Students' Union, so we're here for you from day one. Whether you're actively involved or a passive user of our facilities we aim to make your student experience a better one.
