Welcome to the new look UDSU.co.uk — we're still fixing stuff, so let me know any problems.

UDSU Development Fund

Who can apply for the Fund?

The Development Fund is available to all students actively involved within the University of Derby Students Union. You may be a member of a club or society, a Union Council Officer, coach, course rep or media contributor.

What can I apply for?

You can apply to the Development Fund for subsidy, for a variety of reasons including:

  • Conference Fees
  • Volunteering Expenses
  • Sport Coaching Courses
  • Regional/National Squad Representation
  • Personal Development Purposes
  • Community Development Events

However, you must be able to demonstrate that, by UDSU Student Activities providing funding, there will be a direct benefit to students of the University of Derby.

Please Note: Clubs and Societies will not be able to apply for funding to make up Grant allocations, except in extraordinary circumstances (decided by the Grants Committee).

How do I apply?

You need to put your application in writing for the attention of the Vice-President Student Activities, including a breakdown of costs and reasons how the University, Student Union or individual students (including yourself) will benefit. If you need any help or additional information, please contact any of the Student Activities staff on 01332 591510.

Depending on the reason for your request, we may also ask that you provide quotes or other forms of supporting evidence. The more supporting evidence and documents you hand in with the application the quicker an decision can be made.

When will I know if my application is successful?

Applications will be assessed on a regular basis by the Vice-President Student Activities. Each request will be judged on its own merits and not against other applications.

You will be advised of when you will receive a decision by, when you hand in your form.

How will I get the money?

Once a decision is made you will be able to collect your money from the Finance window in the Student Union Offices Kedleston road. In the case of Clubs and Societies, a subsidiary account will be set up in Banking Services, and you will need to raise payment requests in the normal way, payments will be made in the form of a cheque.

Can I appeal against a decision?

If your request has met all of the criteria mentioned earlier, and you haven’t asked for an amount that the Lottery would turn down, there should be no need for appeal. However, last say on applications lies with the Student Activities Sabbatical and their decision is final.

Publicity

The Student Activities Department may request that successful applicants participate in promotional campaigns for the Student Activities Department. This is not mandatory but may be of great benefit to the Students Union and potentially students at the University.
