Buxton Equine Club is officially the University of Derby’s Best New Club 2009-2010 (voted for by students and the Students' Union)! We’re a club that operates to provide students with a different and exciting sport here at the University of Derby Buxton Campus, but we believe we do much more than that...
Last year saw us take part in numerous different activities including hosting two successful events (the first saw us decorate the floor of The Vault with Hay and don wellies for our Barn Party and the second saw us girls (and a few boys too!) slip into naughty santa outfits and adorn SPA bar with mistletoe). We also raised money for the SU by getting our kit off and wellies on for the University of Derby Naked Calendar!! We got together for regular socials including our Xmas Meal, competed against Lincoln Uni at Varsity, organised an end of year Gymkhana games and BBQ, rode regularly at Fern Farm Stables and John Shaw Equestrian Centre and much, much more besides!
And next year we want your help to make our club even bigger and better!
Whether you have been riding since before you could walk, or if you’ve never even sat on a horse before Buxton Equine Club has something for everyone! We’re a mixed gender club and anyone is welcome to join us. We train on a weekly basis at Fern Farm Riding School in Buxton, with our amazing instructor Louise who splits us into ability based groups to ensure that everyone gets the best from their time within the club. For those that prefer more competitive riding to normal lessons we are also aiming to enter a BUCS team, the team shall consist of five riders whom shall train at John Shaw Equestrian Centre for information on when try-outs for the team are please see us at Freshers Fair. Whilst we do have to train seperately due to space and practicalities, as a club we support and spectate all members riding and do many social activities as a whole club!
This year we want to progress even further as a club by getting a team into the BUCS league and taking part in even more horsey related activities (such as Polo, Pony Trekking, Trips to BSJA and Chatsworth Horse Trials, Western Riding lessons etc.) and non-horsey activities (such as more socials, trips bowling, to the cinema, paintballing and to GO ON TOUR etc!!)
With all this to look forward to why not find us at Freshers Fair when one of our members will be keen to give you more details.
