Varsity is an annual sporting competition between the University of Derby Students' Union and the University of Lincoln Students' Union which includes a variety of different sports that are common between the two Universities. For every win, the University is awarded one Varsity point. The University who gains the most wins overall goes home with the Varsity Trophy and, of course, the pride of knowing that they have beaten their closest rival.
This year the University of Derby Students' Union and Lincoln were pitted in 14 competitions spanning 8 different sports. We also had supporting performances from the Cheerleaders, Dance Team and Pole Dance Society during the day as well as a fantastic turnout of supporters cheering our teams on in all of their matches.
While Derby has failed to win the overall Varsity for the previous 5 years of the events history we're proud to report that, yesterday, the tables turned and Team Derby was successful – beating Lincoln by 3 varsity points. All of our teams, and their supporters, should be very proud of this fantastic achievement and, of course, we plan to repeat the victory next year.
