Summer must-haves for men
The summer season is well under way, and with it come the usual shorts, sandals and t-shirt staples for men. If you're after something a bit more on-trend for a holiday, or are just looking to update your wardrobe, there are some key pieces that are big in men's clothing at the moment.
Prints are dominating the catwalk and the high street for summer; from traditional paisley to tribal motifs. The Hawaiian shirt is sneaking back in, but with a softer, vintage feel that you can pick up on the charity rails; think bird designs and a muted palette. To tone it down a bit, try polka dots or stripes in office colours like blue or grey.
The trendiest footwear in all the shops right now is definitely the deck shoe. A nice compromise between loafers and sandals, they can be worn with shorts or full-length trousers. Stick to a neutral tan or brown and you'll only need to take one pair of shoes away with you.
Ribbed cardigans are proving popular at the moment for the cooler summer evenings. Lighter than chunky winter alternatives, choosing a basic colour like cream or navy will last into the next season and save you extra pennies.
Hot colours like cerise may not be everyone's style but there are more subtle ways to introduce colour. Yellow is big at the moment but make sure to choose the shade well; men's t-shirts in bold canary look great as a contrast to pale skin whereas pastels work better on darker complexions.
Just a few new items here and there can ensure you keep up with the trends without blowing the budget. Ultimately, go for what makes you comfortable as these are the purchases that you will get the most wear out of.
