Volunteering
With support from your VP Student Development and Students' Union staff, the University of Derby Students Union can help you turn your ideas into reality. Taking part in any of our worthwhile projects would be beneficial to any student hoping to gain experience and learn new skills, enhancing their CV and leading to greater employability. We can offer the chance to take part in some short term ‘one-off’ opportunities which would merely require you turning up on a particular day to help coordinate or facilitate an event for one occasion only, and a number of regular ‘part time’ opportunities which may require a commitment of a couple of hours each week. There are also a number of ‘Lead’ opportunities which offer students an opportunity to showcase and enhance their leadership skills. Full support and training will be on offer to any student taking part in the project.
There are many other incentives for getting involved too, including registration for a ‘V’ award which is a nationally recognised certificate from Volunteering England. All expenses are paid, and free CRB checks organised where necessary. Participation could also provide students with a project to enable them to qualify for their Derby Award in Leadership & Management via the University’s Careers Development Centre. Contact Asia Alder for more details of how to register for the Award. You ill also be automatically be entitled to register your community volunteering with the HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Record) award, which links to your degree transcript.
If you feel you have something to offer and recognise how being involved will ultimately benefit you and enhance your employability then please get in touch with your Vice President Student Development or Tim Watson, your Students' Union’s Societies and Activities Coordinator for an informal chat about how you can get involved, or call in to see us in the Students' Union offices in the Union Quarter at the Kedleston Road site.
