Nominate University Staff - You Are Brilliant Awards!

UDSU is looking to find out which staff you, as students, think have been the absolute best this year! The winning staff will be awarded a trophy and recognition for their hard work at the Teaching and Learning Conference 2017.

Nominations will be open from Monday 15th May 2017 until Friday 26th May 2017 at 23:59.

To nominate a member of staff for an award, please see the criteria of each award and provide evidence/examples of how this individual has met the criteria when you follow the link:

  • Outstanding Support Staff Of The Year

  • Amazing Personal Tutor Of The Year

The winners of the awards will be decided by a committee within the Students' Union, based on the evidence received in nominations, and will be announced at the Learning and Teaching Conference on Monday 3rd July at the Buxton Campus, University of Derby. 


Inspirational Teaching Award (1 award) based on open nominations from students.

The inspirational teaching award will be awarded to staff who have offered exceptional standards of teaching to the students of this university, inspiring them on a daily basis.

This winner of this award will:

  • Engage the students within their subject area

  • Excite and enthuse students by the methods used in lectures

  • Show passion and expert knowledge of their subject area

  • Inspire students to excel in their academic studies

Lecturer of the Year (5 awards – 1 from each college)

The Lecturer of the Year awards will be awarded to staff who each College who have showcased exceptional teaching, facilitated student development and enhanced the students learning experience.

The winners of these awards will:  

  • Provide detailed feedback in a timely manner that facilitates student development

  • Be engaging and innovative – showing passion and enthusiasm in their teaching and use a range of teaching methods to engage students

  • Maintain regular and clear communication with students, and makes themselves available for students to contact

  • Be knowledgeable about, and engaged with their subject – use their knowledge, experiences and passion for the subject to enhance the student learning experience

Outstanding Support Staff of the Year (1 award).

The Outstanding Support Staff of the Year award will be awarded to non-teaching staff who have gone above and beyond in their role to support students in their experience at University.

The winner of this award will:

  • Have gone above and beyond their expected duties

  • Be a non-teaching member of staff

  • Have made a significant impact on a student or students experience at University

  • Be consistent and professional in supporting students every step of the way

Amazing Personal Tutor of the Year (1 award).

The Amazing Personal Tutor of the Year award will be awarded to a Personal Tutor who has supported students with a range of issues and made a significant impact on a student’s experience at University.

The winner of this award will:

  • Be a designated Personal Tutor

  • Supported students with academic and pastoral issues

  • Gone above and beyond in their role, making a significant impact to a student or students

  • Maintained a positive relationship which has helped to shape a student’s overall University experience into an unforgettable experience
